Bus & Train


The CTA provides bus and train service within the City of Chicago. East and West Garfield Park are served by the CTA Green Line and Blue Line, as well as several bus lines, including Route 20 along Madison and Route 53 along Pulaski. Metra provides suburban rail service. The nearest Metra lines to Garfield Park are Union Pacific Northwest (UP-N) line with the Kedzie stop located at Kedzie Ave. and Lake St. and the Milwaukee District North (MD-N), Milwaukee District West (MD-W), and North Central Service (NCS) lines with the Western Avenue stop located at 420 N. Artesian.

There are several free online and smartphone-enabled tools to help you plan transit trips. You can also call a help line. See an overview of options. You can also find out when your bus or train is arriving in real time by text message, web interface, or email.


Ventra is Chicago’s combined fare card that can be used on either CTA or Pace suburban buses. You can purchase your pass or add value at CTA rail stations, participating retail locations (such as local convenience stores), online, by phone, or using the Ventra app. Cash fares are accepted on buses. Reduced fares are available for seniors, students, and persons with disabilities.

Pace Bus Service for Seniors and People with Disabilities

People with disabilities may qualify for Pace Bus Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Paratransit Service. Call the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) at 312-663-HELP (4357) to ask about eligibility or to apply for scheduled transit trips. Learn more here.

Bikes on Transit

Bikes are welcome on all CTA and Pace buses at any time; each bus has a two-bike rack on front. Bikes are permitted on CTA trains at all times except weekdays from 7 to 9 am and from 4 to 6 pm. Bring your bike on all Metra trains except weekday trains arriving in Chicago before 9:30 am and leaving Chicago between 3 pm and 7 pm.
